In our last post we talked about what sustainable fashion meant and why it is important. I mean come on, we all hate plastic, then why wear it!
You heard it right. The polyester in your clothes is nothing but plastic, and most of it is leading to the oceans in the form of micro-plastics. You surely didn't know that, did you? There's more to the story
We all related with Isla Fisher in "Confessions of a Shopaholic".

We thought the world was getting better when we bought yet another dress that our wardrobe didn't have the space for. Well, not quite. The world gets worse, every time we shop for a clothe we don't need, just because it was stylish but cheap.
Yet another weaver/labourer is being underpaid for their work (cost of buying stylish but cheap clothes)
More fabric (mostly synthetic) is being pumped into the fashion ecosystem
The plastic and chemical usage is going further up
Guilty much? So now what? Let go of fashion and style because you care about the environment?
Not really, and that's the good news! Here is what we can do
Donate/Sell your Clothes: Most (more than 60%) clothes are lying unattended in our wardrobes. Donate them to actual cloth collectors or those is need. Not to big fashion labels unless you want your clothes to be dumped/burnt in landfills and add to the wastage and pollution. if there are no takers, use/repeat your clothes!

Thrift or rent, avoid buying: There are tons of clothes available in the world, circulating in the "fashion economy" already. Use the sisterhood (or brotherhood) and get them pants traveling. And guess what? Thrifting and renting are also affordable ;)

If you do have to buy, go for sustainable alternatives. Check the fabric tag. Avoid (rather ban) synthetic fabrics. Go for Organic tags, especially GOTS certified because....

Lastly, do not get green-washed. Not all that says it is green is green. Fashion labels are trying to disguise their malpractices by hiding under "green" and "recycled" tags or "return your clothes" schemes. Do not fall for it. Do your research, while we will be back with a list of the best sustainable fashion labels out there. Stay tuned!
